Founded in 2019, Chestnut Development arose from three things: a love of architecture, a desire to make it accessible to everyone, and an empty, long-neglected lot. The realization of these ideas finds its home in Columbus, Indiana, a city known for its architecture and public art. The homes we choose to create invoke the ideas of Columbus' most well known names and are designed to optimize multiple facets of an entire homestead package. Energy efficiency, livable space, and affordability all combine into unique visions that are guaranteed to spark discussion from inside out.

In thinking about "normal people", we imagine the kind of person that comes home from working for a living to relax in the space they've made their own. We also want that space to be a work of art that they can be passionate about and excited to show to their friends and neighbors. No need to run in the high profile circles of famous architects or concern yourself with the grandiosity of your foyer. These are homes, designed first and foremost to be lived in. Second, each project is engineered for maintainability; having a unique house shouldn't also make it difficult to look after. Third, these houses are a part of a neighborhood, and as such should always add to the character of that neighborhood. Tying all these tenets together is the groundbreaking idea that these unique, livable, custom-designed homes could be owned by anyone in the neighborhood.  Remember that empty lot? Founder Nick Slabaugh watched that empty lot for years before deciding that he could be the one to make it better than it was.
